IRB Sindhudurg Airport in Maharashtra has secured regulatory approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to operate flights on a 24×7 basis under all weather conditions. The clearance significantly enhances the airport’s operational capability and strengthens air connectivity across the Konkan region.

The approval covers advanced navigation and safety certifications, enabling uninterrupted aircraft operations even during low visibility and challenging weather conditions.

DGCA Grants IFR and Navigation Clearances

On January 3, 2026, the DGCA formally granted permission to IRB Sindhudurg Airport, which is operated by IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd, to conduct continuous day-and-night flight operations. The airport has received Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) certification, allowing aircraft to land and take off safely when visual flying conditions are limited.

In addition, the regulator has approved Required Navigation Performance (RNP) procedures supported by an alternative non-satellite-based navigation system. These enhancements improve route accuracy and operational reliability throughout the year.

Rising Passenger Traffic Spurs Capacity Expansion

The airport has witnessed a steady rise in passenger movement, with nearly 11,000 travellers passing through the terminal in December, setting a new record. To accommodate this growing demand, the airport authority has expanded the aircraft apron, increasing parking capacity from three to six aircraft stands.

The infrastructure upgrades are designed to support rising passenger volumes driven by tourism, business travel, and improved regional connectivity.

Positive Impact on Regional Connectivity and Tourism

With round-the-clock and all-weather operations now in place, IRB Sindhudurg Airport is expected to play a more prominent role in enhancing access to the Konkan region. The improved operational flexibility makes the airport more attractive for airlines to schedule regular and reliable services.

Plans are also underway to launch direct flights on the Mumbai–Sindhudurg route under the state’s regional air connectivity scheme, which is expected to benefit local residents, tourists, and businesses.
